BIG STRIPER STORIES
Midnight on Nauset Beach   ---   By David Silver
NAUSET BEACH, CAPE COD, MA., July 31, 2001, 12:30 a.m. --    It was the last night of a two week fishing trip on the Cape.nauset striper image I wasn't going to go out because I had to get up at 5:30 to drive to Logan Airport.

But .... I couldn't help myself. It was midnight when I walked on to Nauset Beach and it was the foggiest I've ever seen it. Couldn't see another fisherman who was ten feet away. nauset striper image
I slowly picked a spot and tied on a 7", 1 1/2 oz Black Bomber swimmer. On my fourth or fifth cast I was on to a very nice fish.

I couldn't see the other fisherman and wondered if everyone was hooked up with similar fish. Every time I got the fish near shore, it would make another run. When I finally got it on the beach, a guy fishing eels emerged from the fog, shook my hand and seemed surprised I'd caught it on a plug. It was 44" and 37 lbs.
